Description | This Genome Property describes a trimeric, B12-dependent enzyme in a polyhedral microcompartment, or metabolosome, related to (but distinct from) the RuBisCO-containing carboxysome. Described examples include the propanediol dehydratase PduCDE (Pdu means propane diol utilization) and the glycerol dehydratase (also called PduCDE) of Lactobacillus reuteri. The latter converts glycerol in one step to 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde, also called reuterin, a compound that confers probiotic effects. |
