Name | O147(Ec) antigen biosynthesis |
Type | METAPATH |
Description | The E. coli O147 antigen is a linear tetrasaccharide with the structure [->2)aLRha(1->2)aLRha(1->4)bDGalA(1->3)bDGalNAc(1->]. The Shigella flexneri O6 antogen is identical except for an additional 3-O-linked acetyl group on the second rhamnose [1]. Despite requiring three glycosidic linkages in the monomer unit, there are only two glycosyltransferases in the antigen biosynthesis cluster. The WfbY transferase is most closely related (32% identical) to WvwB from the O146 cluster, which is purported to transfer L-rhamnose in two different positions. WfbZ, on the other hand, is most closely related to a series of Gal->GalNAc transferases. |
