Accession | GenProp0906 |
Name | poly-beta-1,6 N-acetyl-D-glucosamine system, IcaADBC type |
Type | SYSTEM |
Description | Many pathogenic bacteria produce an exopolysaccharide based on poly-N-acetylglucosamine. It is an important factor in biofilm formation and therefore virulence. Modifications (as by polysaccharide N-deacetylase) and attachments differ from system to system. This Genome Property describes the variant associated with the IcaADBC operon as found in Staphylococcus epidermidis. Biosynthesis begins with UDP-N-acetylglucosamine, polymerized with beta-1,6 linkages, followed by incomplete deacetylation. |
