AccessionGenProp0870
Namedecarboxylation/antiport proton-motive cycle: lysine-cadaverine
TypeSYSTEM
DescriptionThe decarboxylation of lysine to cadaverine consumes a proton. Exchange of lysine for cadaverine by an antiporter completes a cycle that effectively removes a cytosolic proton. Decarboxylation/antiporter systems for this and other (e.g. aspartate-alanine) substrate pairs can provide protection against acidic pH.
JCVI RoleAdaptations to atypical conditions
Parent PropertyGenProp0873: ion-motive antiporter cycles
GenProp0874: response to acid (low pH) environment
