Genome Property Definition Page
Accession | GenProp0255 |
Name | 5-aminolevulinate biosynthesis |
Type | METAPATH |
Description | 5-aminolevulinate, a heme precursor, may be biosynthesized by one of two pathways. The C5 (or Glutamate) pathway is more common (GenProp0217) while the alphaproteobacteria utilize the enzyme 5-aminolevulinate synthase to make the molecule from succinyl-CoA and glycine (GenProp0223). This property summarizes the other two, holding a YES state when either of the other two are found to be present. |
