Description | Homoserine (which is also threonine precursor) may be succinylated or acetylated in the first step of methionine biosynthesis in bacteria. The second step removes the acyl group but adds sulfur from cysteine to form cystathionine. Cystathione beta-lyase cleaves cystathionine to produce homocysteine, which is methylated to form methionine. |
