Accession | GenProp0155 |
Name | dissimilatory sulfate reduction |
Type | PATHWAY |
Description | During anaerobic respiration, sulfate reducing bacteria catalyze the six electron reduction of sulfate to hydrogen sulfide. These sulfate reducers comprise both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as archeae [1]. Sulfur oxidizing bacterium, such as Chromatium vinosum, can reversibly catalyze this pathway freeing electrons and ATP [1]. |
