DescriptionChlorophyll is formed directly from chlorophyllide a by the addition of a phytyl side chain, or by addition of a geranylgeranyl side chain and subsequent reduction of the side chain. The synthetase and reductase responsible for this conversion are closely related to the enzymes which carry out the analagous steps of bacteriochlorophyll biosynthesis
