DescriptionYES NO A group I intron is one of two types of self-splicing introns that differ in splicing mechanism and structural features. Group II introns use a splicing mechanism that releases an intron lariat, much like the processing of eukaryotic pre-mRNA. Both group I and group II introns may encode proteins related to intron functions such as splicing or mobilization; group II introns are often recognized as such by their intron-encoded protein (IEP).
